Just realized that when I demonstrate a passage or a phrase for a student it’s not actually about showing them how it “should” sound or how I would like them to sound and imitate me. I like to try it out myself in front of them a few times to be able to better explain what I’m thinking as I play it myself and can then help offer them more specific suggestions about pacing, characters, colors, fingerings, bowings- basically everything! And then it’s up to them how to interpret what could change or stay the same as what I’ve done.

Yes, they can also watch videos of players they like that are playing the same material but of course without the benefit of any live interaction.
