Sounding good once is wonderful – but can we do it again?

We tend to spend hours and hours practicing what we want to improve and analyzing why things don’t sound the way we want them to sound (or feel- or both).

Sounding good once is wonderful – but can we do it again? What happens when we play a phrase and realize that- wow- that sounded really good! How nice! 🙂 And then we keep going to a passage that needs a lot of work and work on that. And THEN we come back to the phrase that we loved and sounded good on and play it again and guess what!? Ugh! Not so good! How on earth did I do that earlier to make it sound the way I wanted?? SO- here’s the lesson- (duh!) When we DO like how something sounds STOP and figure out why! There can be tons of things to explore- physical, as well as mental/intellectual and emotional. And often it’s more than just one thing. But it really helps to break these things down so that when we come back to the same phrase later we actually know what to do to sound great…. again 🙂
