This looks like a lot- but I believe you will recognize most, if not all of these practice techniques that we’ve done in our lessons. Enjoy 🙂
For intonation (pitch accuracy):
1. Single line without shift-Target practice- play 1st note to note you’re having trouble finding- back and forth- check with either open string or tuner.
2. Single line with shift- find top note (destination practice) feel it in your body and spatially- then REALLY SLOW/LIGHT shift with dip and light harmonics and stop when you get there. LEAD WITH BOW
3. Double stops with shift- play each line separately with easy fingerings for your ear- then each line separately with your fingering- then slur bottom note to top note and reverse ALWAYS SHIFTING SUPER SLOWLY AND LIGHTLY with dip- then both lines with left hand and each string with bow- then put it all together- LEAD WITH BOW
4. Chords- set bottom 2 notes/play/stop and set top 2 notes/play/stop
then add the previous note or 2 before the chord and do the same thing to make the transition to the chords
Putting it all together!
1.Take a section and play only with the bow- open strings only- incorporating everything but the notes: proper bow distribution, pressure, sounding point, bow speed, dynamics, rhythm, phrasing and character/color/mood you want.
2. Add left hand without vibrato- LEAD EVERYTHING WITH YOUR BOW
3. Then left hand alone in character with vibrato
4. Put it all together and LEAD WITH YOUR BOW!
There ya go. Sounds so much better now!!! :))
